Homemade Glazed Doughnuts Recipe

Instructions:

1. Activate Yeast:
– In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2. Mix Dough:
– In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, beaten egg, melted butter, vanilla extract, and the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

3. Knead Dough:
– Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4. First Rise:
– Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

5. Shape Doughnuts:
– Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one larger and one smaller) to cut out doughnut shapes.

6. Second Rise:
– Place the shaped doughnuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover them with a kitchen towel, and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.

7. Fry Doughnuts:
– Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the doughnuts in the hot oil, frying a few at a time, until golden brown on both sides, about 1-2 minutes per side.

8. Glaze Doughnuts:
– Remove the fried doughnuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly. Prepare your favorite glaze (e.g., powdered sugar glaze, chocolate glaze) and dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze. Allow excess glaze to drip off, then place back on the wire rack to set.
